The writing week will start about 10am Tuesday, depending on when the coffee’s ready.
I already have around 12,000 Danny3 words but no way of knowing where we’ll be at close of play on Friday. I’m hopeful of a productive week.
All I do know is that villains will rise, conspiracies will intertwine like snakes, heroes will step forward and egg and bacon sandwiches will be consumed.
Danny is on a roll.
REMEMBRANCE: A friend has just returned from a battlefield tour of northern France.
Vimy Ridge, where Canadians braved machine guns to storm the high ground.
Arras, where thousands of British troops sheltered in tunnels before a major battle.
Eperlecques, where 35,000 slave labourers died building a gigantic underground guided missile gun which could have flattened London.
As Remembrance Sunday approaches it’s easy to focus on the icons of slaughter – the extermination camps, Burma railway, Somme.
But thousands of faceless forgotten people died horribly on quiet days in unremarkable places.
For all the problems modern life throws at us, it’s nowhere near as bad as artillery shells or rifle butts.
It is vital to remember the courage, sacrifice and waste during world-shaping events that took place in the lifetimes of our grandparents and great grandparents.
Those who ignore the lessons of history will probably repeat them.
EGGSASPERATING: It niggles when newsagents sell papers with sections missing. If you ask for a discount they look horrified but would you pay for a box of half a dozen eggs with only five inside?
