RIP Tony Nicklinson. His was a tragic story, body frozen by a stroke, mind alert but imprisoned.
As life expectancy increases and medical treatment improves there will be many more people living with crippling illnesses that would have killed them a few decades ago.
There are those who would advocate life at any price but severe disability in your declining years can be humiliating for the sufferer and miserable for their loved ones.
As the number of afflicted rises the issue cannot be ignored.
JOYSTICK: Being a young royal is a demanding role but isn’t it time Prince Harry displayed his skills with a different kind of chopper?
WRECK RISING: My Danny Lancaster books on Kobobooks.com are now selling in Canada, New Zealand and the United States. I already have readers in Australia.
Kobo is the WH Smith ebookshop and sales of The Wreck Of The Margherita and Death Squad are also doing well in the UK.
My ex-para detective is advancing on all fronts.
WAR OF WORDS: It’s been two months and the battle of the ebooks rumbles on. In June I joined Operation eBook Drop – run by former US Army gunner Ed Patterson to provide free ebooks to coalition forces on active service.
The first obstacle was BT Yahoo which wouldn’t let me bulk bcc details of my books to troops who had signed up with OEBD.
Since then a dozen or more messages have passed back and forth but the problem is still not sorted. A mention of Twitter seems to grab their attention. The battle goes on.
WORD OF WARNING: Language skills are not always the best solution to travel problems. A friend was wending his way back to his Lisbon hotel when a young man approached and demanded his valuables.
“Do you speak English?” inquired my friend. “Yes,” said the would-be mugger. “Well f**k off then,” said my friend.
And the guy did.
