Gunshot wounds make a small hole going in and a large one coming out. I have made the painful discovery that it’s the same with electronic nicotine cigarettes.
Whatever you do, DON’T puff on them like an ordinary fag or you’ll find out what it’s like to have the back of your head blown off.
One fascinating aspect of thriller writing is research. Like a pollinating bee, you get to flit around exploring all sorts of diverse and exotic subjects.
Research for The Wreck Of The Margherita included the physics and chemistry of fire, shipping lanes and traffic control in the English Channel, how storms behave, Venezuela, the rehabilitation of wounded soldiers, pregnancy testing, Indian soldiers in Brighton, genealogy, Wapping’s historic Wilton’s Music Hall, the Menin Gate in Ypres, greyhound racing and fag darts.
Death Squad involved studying dogging, iconic electric guitars, armed police response, lapdancing, St Pancras Station, bugging equipment, Mallorquin horses, Gibraltar and Puerto Banus, Bordeaux Pomerol wines, the classic World War Two P51 Mustang fighter, the Drunk’s Game, the music of Adele and cannabis cultivation.
All good fun and it should make me unbeatable in a pub quiz.
I’ve signed up to Operation eBook Drop, a scheme to provide free ebooks to coalition troops serving abroad.
The organiser provides authors with a mailing list and the author sends book links and voucher codes. That’s the way it should work if BT didn’t keep bouncing back my emails as spam.
Very frustrating.
Chuffed to see Death Squad now available for Kobo readers through WH Smith.
Also pleased with my adverts on Kindle Users Forum. The adventures of Danny Lancaster make perfect holiday reading.
Danny3 is taking shape nicely and now has a working title. I also have an outline for Danny4. Time to pound the keyboard again.
